Tomatoes. Eggplant. Squash. Sunflowers ...

The Rocketts Landing community garden is in full bloom -- and thanks to all the season's rain (and a new compost area created this year), our residents' garden plots are lush and ripe with botanical life! Located along the riverbank and near the community pool, the plots are open to Rocketts Landing residents (though they're all currently in use for this growing season). We provide the land and water, and they provide the gardening love.

Based on the plethora of flowers, vegetables and herbs verdantly growing, this may be our residents' best growing season yet. We've even heard that parties thrown by our residents' social committee feature the fresh produce and herbs grown riverfront.

We thoroughly enjoy seeing how each resident applies their green thumb creativity and how the gardens differ from year to year. Each plot seems to tell a different garden story — from carefully landscaped, flower-filled oases to jam-packed produce powerhouses.

We’ve been so inspired by the residents’ work, that we’re excited to announce our inaugural Gardening Competition. This week (through July 12th) a Henrico County Master Gardener from the Extension Office is judging each garden plot to select the best Rocketts Landing garden. The winning resident will receive a trophy and a gift card to a Rocketts Landing restaurant of their choosing.

With all the beautiful, bountiful plants growing this year, we’re sure choosing a Rocketts Landing Community Garden winner will be difficult. Be sure to check back to the blog soon as we announce the winner. Good luck residents — and happy growing!
