The Last Bend Around the River for M Bistro & Wine Bar

Post Date: 01-31-2014
Life along the James River at Rocketts Landing is a constant reminder of the powerful ebbs and flows impacting us day to day. Somehow, as soon as you step outside, the air feels different, the sunsets seem richer — and even our stresses sweep themselves up into the river’s ongoing rhythm. In fact, this experience is one of the many reasons RVA businesses and Richmonders choose to make their home here. There’s just something right around the river at Rocketts Landing.

And so when we heard the news that M Bistro & Wine Bar’s final day in operation is tomorrow, February 1, we were instantly saddened — and reminded of life’s moving current.

Three years ago, we welcomed Chef and Owner Michael Hall into our community with his first restaurant, after years serving as the executive chef at many of Richmond’s esteemed dining destinations. His French-inspired Southern cuisine was a perfect compliment to our other destination restaurants along the riverfront.

During that time, Chef Hall and his staff offered our residents and RVA a delicious dining experience for learning about vintage wines, sampling unique and homemade recipes, and celebrating momentous occasions. M Bistro & Wine Bar truly became part of our Rocketts Landing family.

But, just as the powerful James River continues her journey, so do our lives, our goals and our ambitions. And the bend around the river is not always the turn you expect. As one of the first restaurants to open in our community, M Bistro & Wine Bar will always hold a special place in our Rocketts Landing heart. We wish the best for Chef Michael Hall as he begins the next journey in his culinary adventure.

We invite Richmond to come out to our community today and tomorrow and experience M Bistro in their last days in business. While the opportunity may be fleeting, just as the river reminds us, the moment is yours to embrace.

From the M Bistro & Wine Bar’s Facebook page, here’s his open letter to Richmond:

       Dear Friends,

After three years in operation, it is with deep regret that we announce the closing of our doors at M Bistro and Wine         Bar on this Saturday, February 1st. The friendships, business partnerships and relationships we have developed over         the past few years make this a very difficult letter to write.

Please know that it was a very difficult decision for us to make as our lease period comes to an end. We       wholeheartedly thank all of our families, friends, wonderful staff, investors, neighbors and the Richmond community         at large for a wonderful experience. We would especially like to thank Rockett’s [sic] Landing for welcoming us to       their neighborhood with warmth and open arms.

Thank you all for allowing us to be a part of your lives and to take with us the memories of your many birthday         parties, wedding and anniversary celebrations, networking socials, catered events and so many other special moments       you have allowed us to be a part of over the past three years.

Again, thank you for being a part of the M Bistro family. We will miss you all dearly and wish you the best!

      Best Regards,

      Chef Michael Hall
