There's no denying that Rocketts Landing residents put feel-good vibes as high priorities. From their frequent social gatherings to their ongoing community fundraisers, our residents certainly enjoy life! And their Social Committee's recent annual fall Oyster Roast perfectly captures this appeal.
Fall Oyster Roast
On Nov. 10, Rocketts residents gathered along the banks of the James River to enjoy their annual fall Oyster Roast. With $250 worth of oysters generously donated by The Boathouse, (their annual oyster sponsor) residents grilled, roasted and shucked their way to a delicious day on the river. Other delectable dishes included a homemade roast and a big pot of Brunswick Stew, which teacher and Oregon Hill resident Jennifer Harrelson generously cooked for everyone.
Turkey Drive for the Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC)
Once again, Rocketts residents held their annual Turkey Drive to help the NRC provide Thanksgiving meals and funds to Fulton Hill–area families in need. In total, they raised $540 to help support 14 families this past holiday season. The NRC was able to purchase gift cards from the local grocery store and match funds that reflected the different family sizes, which better helped each one of them enjoy a filling holiday meal.
“We had a wonderful time passing [the gift cards] out!” explains Penny Ferris, NRC program and volunteer coordinator. “The families we gave them to were shocked and so overcome with relief … it is so needed and so appreciated.”
