Success at Rocketts Landing Events

Post Date: 10-07-2013

We’ve had a wonderful run of Rocketts Landing events over the past couple of weeks. And we’ve enjoyed every single minute of fun! From fundraisers to dance parties to triathlons, our riverfront’s been jam-packed with action, and we’re excited to share details of each event’s success.

Massey on the River

For the second year, we hosted the annual Massey on the River fundraiser and brought more than 750 people down to our riverfront for one heck of a party. On September 21, partygoers wined, dined and danced well into the night, bringing with them both great vibes and impressive fundraising!

The event not only met their goal of raising $60,000 for the VCU Massey Cancer Center — they exceeded it by $2000! The party also showcased a silent auction that brought in over $24,000 of donated funds, which included items such as vacations to Kiawah, Nantucket and Duck, and exclusive home, travel and sports packages. More than 20 volunteers also dedicated their time to help make this year’s fundraiser a success, which further reflects the camaraderie found at Rocketts Landing events.

Richmond Rox Triathlon

On September 22, 1000 people came out to participate in Richmond Multisports’ annual Richmond Rox Triathlon. Dubbed as the area’s only Half Ironman training course, the event attracted over 300 athletes to test their swimming, cycling and running endurance at Rocketts Landing.

The event also served as a fundraiser for the VCU Medical Center Evans-Haynes Burn Center. In total, Richmond Multisports raised $1584.86 toward their fundraising goal, easily surpassing their target. The funds will go toward repairing a machine for young burn victims that helps distract them during treatment so they have a more comforting experience. An additional event highlight was athlete Tony Carr, a burn victim who triumphantly raced on a relay team.

We send a huge congrats to Tony for his athletic accomplishments — and to Richmond Multisports for having another great Rocketts Landing event!

Comfort Zone Camp

On September 28, nonprofit Comfort Zone Camp (CZC) hosted their annual fundraiser and Fall Bash and became one of our newest Rocketts Landing events. Described by CZC event organizers as a “great success,” over 500 guests came out for the 12th Annual Fall Bash and enjoyed an all-you-can-eat oyster and barbeque buffet donated by the soon-to-open The Pig and The Pearl restaurant and Harris Catering, respectively. The soulful The Reality Show Band kept everyone thoroughly entertained and dancing under the stars. In fact, everyone had so much fun that many partygoers even jumped on stage to join the band.

This was the first year that Rocketts Landing served as the location host for their Fall Bash, and rumor has it that many returning guests commented that our riverfront was their favorite spot for the party, yet! We were honored to host such a wonderful annual fundraiser and look forward to next year’s event.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoy any opportunity to host the variety of fundraisers, parties and athletic events happening in RVA. A rich array of Rocketts Landing events do happen throughout the year, so be sure to keep up with our calendar for events on the horizon and check back here for more updates soon!
