Rocketts Landing’s Run to the River a Success

Post Date: 10-27-2011

Give yourself a big high five, Richmond -- last Saturday, 200 people came out to the East End for our annual Rocketts Landing Run to the River urban cross-country race, and participants raised between $25,000 and $30,000 to support the East End nonprofit Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC).

As a dual 10k run/5k walk and fundraiser for the NRC, the money raised through Run to the River is a large component of the funds the center needs to support the varied community programs many East End residents depend on for daily life.

"The race was a great success," expresses Race Director Annette Cousins. "The funds from Run to the River will support the Montessori Preschool, after-school tutoring, job support services, children's cooking classes and learning garden, and GED classes."

In addition to helping the NRC raise funds, participants also experienced a new course, which proved to be a bit more challenging than previous years. Annette says she heard many people remark on the great views they had of downtown and Rocketts Landing — thanks to the course’s many hills.

“Many racers crossed the finish exclaiming they were over ‘that last huge hill’ with a smile on their face!” explains Annette.

We also had a lot of volunteers take part in the race’s success — including Rocketts Landing residents — and for their generous help, we send a big thank you! We’re dedicated to supporting the NRC and East End community, and the event could never be as much of a success without the awesome volunteers giving their time and energy to the cause.

So to everyone who turned out to help the NRC while challenging their endurance and strength, be sure to come back next year — each Rocketts Landing Run to the River race only gets better!
