Rocketts Landing residents are at it again -- having a good time, that is! This past weekend, they celebrated the newly budding fall season with the Social Committee's Fish Fry Social along the James River. On Sept. 23, nearly 30 residents came out to the lawn by our community pool with their lawn chairs and coolers in hand, ready to mingle on a sun-filled Sunday.
Truly a collaborative social event (as they always are), Rocketts Landing residents pulled together to cook and ensure everyone had fun. Resident Hayley Karicofe supplied the group with hushpuppies and fresh rockfish, which she recently caught during a successful fishing charter event (we know, our residents don't play around!). Other delicious dishes included hot dogs and French fries -- and naturally, everyone brought their favorite drink of choice. Resident Tim Lamoy manned the fry station and resident Mike Avery (who’s also the sommelier at The Boathouse) grilled up the hot dogs.
“It was a great evening to gather around the picnic tables for fellowship,” explains Hayley Karicofe. “I [always enjoy] the neighbors and good times we share together.”
Noshing and socializing weren’t the only featured activities. Fellow resident Leslie Armstrong generously supplied and set up a badminton net, and word has it that many of the residents even stayed after the food was gone, winding down the evening by taking in the sunset. With our fantastic view of the James River and downtown Richmond skyline, we couldn’t think of a better way to end the evening.
About the Residents Social Committee
Spearheaded by Rocketts Landing resident Sharon Payne, assistant principal of J.R. Tucker High School by day, the Social Committee is an informal group with two distinct focuses: spending time with neighbors through resident-focused events and community fundraising. Each building at Rocketts Landing has its own social committee representative who keeps residents and the committee in the loop about what’s going on in the neighborhood.
If you’ve not yet attended one of the committee’s events or you’re interested to get more involved more, be sure to talk to your building’s representative and get on the committee’s email list. Our residents are always looking for a reason to have a good time — and with the holidays ahead, you know the committee has more fun events on the horizon!
