Enjoy Fall Activities at Rocketts Landing

Post Date: 09-06-2012

Man, oh man, where did the summer go? It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming summer at Rocketts Landing with our Memorial Day celebration, Rocketts Red Glare, and getting ready for all the seasonal activities bustling in our community. But, just because summer's over doesn't mean we run out of things to do here. While the Rocketts Landing community pool is now closed (operating dates are from Memorial Day to Labor Day), plenty of activities and events still abound for residents and visitors to enjoy!

Rocketts Landing Events 2012

Endless River Sports

Whether through a Virginia Boat Club or Mariners Club membership, or your own personal excursions from our marina, everything the James River has to offer is right in our community's backyard. From kayaking and rowing to speedboating and fishing, getting out on the river is one of the things our community helps Richmonders do best!

Volleyball Court

Another popular feature at Rocketts Landing is our beach volleyball court. We’ve seen residents, high school volleyball teams and more take advantage of Richmond’s only riverside volleyball court. Plus, you’re just a few steps away from some of the city’s best riverfront restaurants, so cooling down from your workout can be delicious and enjoyable.

Monthly Riverfront Awareness Walk

Riverside Lifestyle at Rocketts Landing, Richmond Virginia

Richmonder Paul Keefer organizes these monthly community walks — dubbed “R2S2B” (Rocketts to Shiplock [Park] to Belle Isle) — to raise awareness of improved riverfront access throughout the city. Each month, Paul emails interested participants the dates of the organized walks along with updates on the city’s developments toward a more accessible river. The next walk is September 16 at 5:00 p.m. To learn more, you can contact Paul at 804.902.2302 or email him today.

Community Events

Fall at Rocketts Landing also brings a variety of sporting events that we host along the James River. From Dragon Boats to a half Ironman and more, we have something nearly everyone will enjoy:

  • Sept. 22 – Massey on the River: Come celebrate the end of summer with The Massey Alliance at Massey on the River. Filled with live music, food vendors and more, event proceeds will support Massey's mission of saving lives through cancer innovative research and compassionate care.
  • Sept. 23 – Richmond ROX Triathlon (new!): Enjoy one of our newest events at Richmond’s only official Half Ironman endurance race. Expect swimming, running and cycling followed by an afterparty near The Boathouse.
  • Oct. 6 – Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival: Voted a Richmond.com “Richmond Outdoors: Best of 2011” top choice last year, the annual Dragon Boat Festival brings a taste of China to our community. Complete with fierce and fun dragon boat races, and traditional dancing and food, you'll enjoy a unique cultural festival along the James River.
  • Oct. 20 – Rocketts Landing Run to the River: Richmond’s best urban cross-country race challenges participants to tackle three hills, dash through historic neighborhoods and race along the banks of the James River. The event’s also a fundraiser for a nonprofit near to our hearts, the Neighborhood Resource Center.
