What do you get when you have the word "rockets" in your name and a desire to see fireworks on Labor Day? Richmond's first-ever Rocketts Red Glare Labor Day celebration, naturally -- right on the banks of the James River!
At Rocketts Landing, we can't help but get excited over every opportunity we have to gather Richmonders together for unique events at our riverfront community. So, after realizing we had a chance to create the city's only Labor Day celebration with fireworks, we immediately started planning a family-friendly fun event that promises to end your summer with a bang!
On September 5, this one-of-a-kind celebration -- co-sponsored by Richmond.com and The Boathouse -- will include a performance by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra followed by a fireworks show over the river as the Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
Everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to bring a blanket or chair to sit on and a picnic full of goodies. We’ll also have a variety of ice cream and shaved ice vendors, including Boyer’s Ice Cream, Cherry Hill Ice Cream, Kona Shaved Ice and Soul Ice Vending. If you’d rather grab a bite to eat than picnic, you can head over to one of our three restaurants for dinner at M Bistro & Wine Bar, Conch Republic Rocketts or The Boathouse.
Have a well-behaved pooch who enjoys fireworks? Bring your dog along and include him or her in your family fun (just remember a leash!). The Richmond Symphony Orchestra performance begins at 7:30 p.m., with fireworks starting just after sunset around 9:15 p.m.
So be sure to RSVP on our Facebook page and share Rocketts Red Glare with your friends and family. We look forward to celebrating Richmond’s newest Labor Day tradition with you at Rocketts Landing!
