Organized by
local nonprofit Hitting Cancer Below the Belt, the Boxer Brief Battle invites
participants to raise funds in a 5k run/walk. All proceeds will help them
achieve their mission of "raising awareness and funds for local efforts in
cancer prevention," with a specific focus on "below the belt"
diseases, such as colon cancer. And if their first race last year is any
indication, we're certain everyone's in for a great event.
Families come together for a day of racing and honoring loved ones.
The race
takes off at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday morning, where racers will wind their way
from Rocketts Landing through Fulton Bottom (our neighboring community) and
Gillies Creek Park, and then finish back at our community. In addition to the
race, the Boxer Brief Battle will have DJ Mr. Beach Steve Leonard onsite playing
music starting at 8:00 a.m. and Inclusive Racing and United Athletics will also
join the event to work with the assisted athletes competing in the race. New
this year is the Strolling Colon exhibit, where everyone can walk through a
large replica of a human colon to learn more about its function within the body
— and overall importance in our health!
Wigs and underwear over your clothes? No problem! The Boxer Brief Battle is full of fun.
As a race, Hitting Cancer Below the Belt Founder Mindy Colkin says they hope to have over 500 participants and raise over $50,000 for colorectal cancer prevention. The Boxer Battle Brief also invites everyone to stop by their tribute garden and honor all the loved ones lost to colon cancer.
"Not
only are we raising awareness and funds for colorectal cancer prevention,"
says Mindy, "but we're honoring those who have passed away due to this
disease. It's not over; we continue our efforts to prevent the country's
second-leading cancer killer because of the energy left behind by others who
have left us."

The event also brings out the fun in everyone! From rainbow wigs to costumes to briefs worn over pants, the Boxer Brief Battle ensures we all have a good time celebrating life while raising awareness for a very important cause. Whether you're racing, volunteering or cheering, we hope to see you right around the river at Rocketts Landing this weekend!
