Richmond Ballet’s 18th Annual Kentucky Derby Day at Rocketts Landing

Post Date: 05-04-2011

Call on the horses and wear your best Derby attire, because this weekend's about to unfold into one heck of a party at Rocketts Landing! On Saturday, May 7, after winding down from the morning's Cap2Cap bike ride, we're hosting the Richmond Ballet's Kentucky Derby Day party, "Ballet, Bourbon and Bowties" -- complete with big hats, mint juleps and a perfect riverfront view.

Hailed as one of Richmond's foremost spring events, the Kentucky Derby Day party features everything you need to celebrate the race in style. From 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. guests will party until the stars shine above while enjoying a heavy hors d'oeuvres buffet provided by White House Catering and open bar with beer, wine and (of course) mint juleps.

As a benefit for the Richmond Ballet, it comes as no surprise that a dance floor is always one of the party’s main attractions — besides the race, naturally. This year, guests can get down to music provided by The Janitors, a high-energy band inspired by 60s soul, 70s funk, classic rock and almost everything in between.

And because you can’t have a Derby party without the race, at 6:00 p.m. guests will watch the “Run for the Roses” on a big screen TV, so no moment is missed. As our sixth year hosting the Derby party, we know first hand just how fun this event is for everyone involved, so be sure to secure the date today. Tickets are going fast!
