Sign Up for the 2014 Cap2Cap Bike Ride at Rocketts Landing

Post Date: 04-29-2014
With last weekend's Collegiate Regatta behind us, we're officially entering our event season in full force at Rocketts Landing! And next on our agenda is the annual Cap2Cap Bike Ride. On May 10, we're in for more sweaty spandex and smiles filling our community — only this time the event swaps out the James River for the road — and we're excited for every moment.

The 2013 Cap2Cap Bike Ride takes off at Rocketts Landing.

Hosted by the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, the Cap2Cap Bike Ride is the nonprofit's keystone event and largest fundraiser. Cap2Cap is short for Capital-to-Capital, which references how, once complete, the Virginia Capital Trail will link Richmond to Jamestown on one continuous pedestrian trail. The public can already use many parts of the trail up-and-down the James River, and we're anxiously awaiting the final stretch that will even bring the trail through Rocketts Landing!

In just nine years, Cap2Cap has become one of the region's largest rides of its kind with over 2500 participants. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to come out and enjoy the day, which means this is a great family event! Participants have two starting points, Rocketts Landing and Chickahomany Riverfront Park in Williamsburg, and can choose to ride various distances, such as the 25-, 50- and 100-mile ride.

Riders start and finish at the same location and get to enjoy a lively after party, including a vendor expo, catered food, live music and even Capital Trail Pale Ale: a Cap2Cap–themed craft beer by RVA's own Hardywood Park Brewery. (In fact, speaking of beer, registered riders probably want to check out this blog post from Virginia Capital Trail, where you can find a password that will buy you a free Hardywood Capital Trail Pale Ale on event day!)

As a fundraiser, the event helps the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation come closer and closer to achieving their goal of a completed 55-mile, year-round pedestrian trail, and also provides funds for the ongoing trail maintenance. And with a 2015 trail-completion goal in sight, they're not far from the finish line!

You can learn more about the Cap2Cap Bike Ride by visiting the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation online. If you've not yet registered to ride, then be sure to sign up — the next price increase comes on May 8. Whether you're coming out to ride or cheer a loved one on, we look forward to seeing you at Rocketts Landing for a full day of camaraderie, exercise and fun!
