Own a Piece of History at Rocketts Landing

Post Date: 03-11-2013

Anyone familiar with our River City knows that history abounds nearly everywhere you turn. From centuries-old buildings to historic landmarks and monuments, RVA is rich with stories from the past. And at Rocketts Landing, we're no stranger to our share of Richmond history.

Rocketts Landing, Richmond Virginia

Not only did Christopher Newport land the Godspeed here in 1607, our Rocketts community was once the:

  • Site of America's busiest inland port in the late 1700s,
  • Landing spot for Lincoln's first post-war visit to Richmond,
  • Location of one of the first Yeungling breweries, and the
  • Site where a power plant (now The Boathouse) fueled the country's first electric trolley cars.

Of course, these are just a few highlights of our historic contributions to Richmond. One of our other cherished features is our renovated Cedar Works building. As our community's only historic residential building, Cedar Works offers living unlike anything else at Rocketts Landing.

Constructed between 1895 and 1905, Cedar Works once made cedar butter churns and ice boxes, including the best-selling Snowball ice cream freezer (one of our Cedar Works residents even collects pieces of this history!). Today, Cedar Works homes embrace the unique features this historic building holds, such as exposed brick and wooden beams and columns, while also showcasing stellar modern designs.

So, if you enjoy blending history with modern living, then stop by for a visit at Rocketts Landing. With the riverfront within walking distance, an array of delicious restaurants at your doorstep and only a few homes left in our historic Cedar Works building, the time to act is now!
