Get your calendars out and put your spandex on, Richmond.
Spring is in the air at Rocketts Landing -- bringing another year of our community's events along the James River! For our 2012 season, we have a great lineup of happenings in store, from regattas to triathlons to wakeboarding. So, whether you're more of a spectator or participant, be sure to keep Rocketts Landing events on your radar. This is one season you won't want to miss.
APRIL
Richmond's only collegiate regatta makes waves again with an exciting day of rowing on the James River. Drawing clubs from universities across the region, you can expect a day of determined collegiate athleticism, including an alumni race at noon.
MAY
Voted a Richmond.com “Richmond Outdoors: Best of 2011” top choice last year, this fundraiser for the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation — which supports the 55-mile pedestrian and bicycle trail currently being built to link Richmond and Jamestown — is quickly growing into Virginia’s largest cycling event.
Get ready, wakeboarders and fans! Richmond’s first wakeboarding event on the James River hits Rocketts Landing this year. Expect an evening of wakeboarding tricks, feats — and of course, a jolly good time!
JUNE
Hosted by the Virginia Boat Club, our annual Sprints Regatta attracts rowing clubs from across the Greater Atlantic region for some strong rowing competition, a tradition along the James River dating back to the late 1800s!
JULY
Each year, our Rocketts Landing Triathlon athletes never cease to amaze us. Richmond Multisports organizes this annual 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run at and around our community, bringing out some of the region’s fittest athletes.
AUGUST
A Richmond tradition and favorite in its 23rd year, BBBS brings their annual Duck Race to Rocketts Landing for the first time — and we’re thrilled to host the event! Expect to see up to 20,000 yellow duckies “racing” by our community for a full day of festivities that all ages will enjoy.
SEPTEMBER
Another event new to Rocketts Landing, the Richmond Rox Triathlon is Richmond’s only official Half Ironman endurance race. Expect swimming, running and cycling followed by an afterparty near The Boathouse.
OCTOBER
Also voted a Richmond.com “Richmond Outdoors: Best of 2011” top choice last year, the annual Dragon Boat Festival brings a taste of China to our community. Complete with fierce and fun dragon boat races, and traditional dancing and food, you'll enjoy one unique cultural festival along the James River.
As a fundraiser for the Neighborhood Resource Center in neighboring community Fulton Hill, Run to the River is close to our hearts — and running shoes! Participants test their endurance in Richmond’s only urban cross-country hill race, and enjoy a lively afterparty to reward their hard work.
