Rocketts Art Studios Offers “Wine Primer 101” at Rocketts Landing

The New Year is here! And our Rocketts Landing community is starting 2014 by offering plenty of opportunities for revelry — and tasting some of the best beverages around. Next week, wine appreciators who enjoy combining delicious vintages and locally made art can get their fix next week at the Rocketts Art Studios’ (RAS) upcoming “Wine Primer 101” at Rocketts Landing!
RAS is one of the newest businesses in our community, and as a working art studio, the space displays art made by abstract artist Diane Clement and textile artist and jeweler Robin Grabinska. Owned by Rocketts Landing resident Tom Yeaman, his long-term vision for RAS includes serving as a space for wine tastings, private events and board meetings (to name a few!). January 16’s Wine Primer 101 is the first event in their series of upcoming wine tastings.
What to Expect at the RAS Wine Primer 101
In this art-filled “classroom” setting, amateur wine lovers and connoisseurs alike will pump up their wine tasting knowledge by learning how to taste wine like a pro, evaluate different wines and proficiently read labels. You’ll sample several wines with fruit and cheese pairings while finding answers to questions such as:
- What does appellation mean?
- What is a varietal?
- What are the optimum storage and serving conditions?
- How can you discern a wine by its grape and region?
Background on Wine Primer 101 Instructor Carol Colby
Wine Primer 101 is led by Carol Colby, a Certified Specialist of Wine and Certified Wine Educator from the Society of Wine Educators, and a guild member of the Court of Master Sommeliers. She also holds an Advanced Certificate from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust and is the resident wine instructor at Richmond’s Mise En Place cooking school, with more than nine years of experience teaching wine classes. She’s also frequently contributed her deep wine knowledge on numerous local television and radio shows.

Wine Primer 101 class will help you start your 2014 tastings off right!

- Time: Arrive at 6:00 p.m. for an art mingle. Class runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Where: Rocketts Art Studios, 4401 East Main Street
- Cost: $55 per person
