Rocketts Landing Residents Celebrate 2013

Post Date: 01-15-2013

The new year is in full swing, and Rocketts Landing residents wasted no time making sure everyone rang in 2013 in style! Organized by the residents' Social Committee, they celebrated the holidays with festive frills, a homemade ball drop and a fundraising drive -- continuing to prove just how much our residents enjoy each other's company and having a great time (aren't we lucky!).

New Year's Eve Party

One of the great things about the Rocketts Landing residents' Social Committee is its ability to throw a rockin' party. To celebrate the new year, resident Laura Streat welcomed over 80 people to her home for the Social Committee's New Year's Eve party. They enjoyed champagne and drinks served on an ice luge, and feasted on homemade desserts. And as midnight hit, the revelers all gathered in the streets to watch their homemade ball drop down the flag pole, while fireworks serendipitously burst over the river!

Holiday Toy Drive

Rocketts Landing residents make giving back to neighboring communities an ongoing priority through their Social Committee. And each year, they host a toy drive to help families during the holidays through local nonprofit the Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC). During their 2012 toy drive, Rocketts Landing residents raised $680 for families in need.

Their donations helped the NRC purchase for their preschoolers 16 blue bouncy balls; an apron, dustpan and broom play set (which reflects their current Montessori lessons); and winter gloves. They also were able to help give nine families each a $50 gift card to Target — and even have a magician at the children’s holiday party making balloon animals for the kids.

All in all, we’re continually impressed with how the Social Committee helps Rocketts Landing residents and our greater community enjoy life! If you’re a resident who’s not yet involved with the committee, be sure to check them out (each building has a representative). It’s a perfect way to meet and connect with your neighbors — and enjoy great festivities while you do!
