As many of our guests know, having a good time at Rocketts Landing frequently involves enjoying one of our community's three destination restaurants. This weekend is proving to be no different, as The Boathouse opens their doors for their second annual wine dinner. Featuring a Spanish-themed six-course dinner, we're sure you'll be wined and dined into believing you've landed in Europe for the night.
"During this time of year -- the end of January and beginning of February -- there isn't much happening in the winter months," says Boathouse Wine Director and Rocketts Landing resident Michael Avery, "so doing our annual wine dinner gives us and our guests something fun and exciting to do in the middle of winter."
Each dinner course will feature a perfectly paired wine that highlights the local ingredients abounding in Richmond’s food scene right now — which Executive Chef Todd Richardson hand-selected specifically for the event. Guests will enjoy gourmet dishes such as Braised Rabbit with Smoked Surry Sausage, Herb-Rubbed Polyface Pork Loin and homemade (by Todd!) ice cream from BonneyClabber Blue Goat Cheese.
Michael chose to pair the dishes with Spanish wines because the dishes’ ingredients lent themselves to the wines’ lighter yet complex characteristics. Some of his favorite selections for the dinner include the starter Marques de Gelida Brut Cava and the Finca Sandoval Syrah-Monastrell — and he’s especially excited to present the Lustau Delux Cream Capataz Andres Jerez-Sherry, a favorite of Spain and Europe but lesser-known here in the States.
Reservations are required to attend the dinner, so be sure to reserve your seats while you can. Plus, with the dinner set in their special events room, you’ll get to take in the sights of the outdoors and downtown skyline from a private patio overlooking the James River — all that’s missing is a gondola serenade!
