Rocketts Landing Residents Celebrate the End of 2011

Post Date: 01-17-2012

As we've frequently shared, Rocketts Landing residents are one active bunch -- and they thoroughly enjoy each other's company. From running marathons together to celebrating the holidays, our residents make a point to get out and enjoy life. And from the way they closed out 2011 with their Social Committee events, they certainly didn't miss out on any holiday giving and fun.

NRC Toy Drive

The Neighborhood Resource Center (NRC) provides resources to families in need who live in our neighboring community Fulton Hill. During Thanksgiving, our residents raised $555 to help provide holiday meals to NRC-identified families. And they apparently didn't want to stop there -- so the Social Committee sponsored a holiday Toy Drive to help many NRC families purchase gifts during the Christmas season. They raised $585 dollars for buying toys and also donated additional presents to the mix. All in all, 57 children receive gifts!

“Due to our residents and the savvy shopping of the NRC staff, each child they serve was able to receive a hand-selected gift delivered by Santa at their holiday party,” explains Rocketts Landing resident and Social Committee President Sharon Payne.

New Year’s Eve Progressive Dinner Party

Not only do our residents enjoy giving to a cause, they also like to get together, party and enjoy delicious food! And their annual New Year’s Eve Progressive Dinner Party is a great example of the good times they create. As a multi-home-hosted dinner party, around 50 attendees enjoyed different meals at each location, while celebrating with their very own ball drop. This year, three townhome owners hosted events: John and Veronica Buckovich, Terri Thaxton and Laura Streat. Residents enjoyed dishes such as coconut shrimp, scallops wrapped in bacon and beef tenderloin. And they finished the evening in high spirits enjoying dessert and champagne.

“There was a midnight ball drop at Laura’s house and people were celebrating the new year in the street!” says Sharon. “ A good time was had by all!”

In looking to their next event, Sharon says a Superbowl party is currently in works. So, if you’re a Rocketts Landing resident and you’ve not yet checked out the Social Committee, we highly recommend getting involved. From uniting over good causes to celebrating in style, our residents always seem willing and eager to have a good time — and they certainly do!
