As our residents know, Rocketts Landing's view of the James River and downtown skyline is a sight to be seen -- and taking in our community's backdrop is certainly common around here. So, we were hardly surprised when we heard two engaged 210 Rock residents, Sheree Shaw and Scott Greenfield, decided to have a Rocketts Landing--themed wedding this past weekend!
On January 7, Sheree and Scott exchanged their vows at our community's overlook on a perfectly warm, sunny winter day. As water lovers, the couple was originally planning a destination wedding at a tropical beach. But, after looking around their own neighborhood one day, Sheree and Scott realized they had all they needed for their perfect moment right here in the Rocketts Landing backyard.
“The more we thought about a destination wedding, it was too difficult to make those arrangements,” says Sheree. “So, we said, ‘What’s the closest thing we could do to getting married on the water?’ -- which we love. The river in Richmond and at Rocketts Landing was the answer.”
Sheree and Scott, who are 56 and 57 years old, respectively, first met four years ago on eHarmony.com. She was living in Ashland; he was living in Midlothian, and they both had a 45-minute commute when seeing each other. They moved to Rocketts Landing together in the fall of 2011 and immediately fell in love with living here.
“I’ve been coming down here for years with my friend [who also lives at Rocketts Landing],” says Sheree. “So I already had a feeling of the community and how much I like it.”
When planning their reception, Sheree and Scott decided on M Bistro & Wine Bar, which is one of their favorite Richmond restaurants. For M Bistro, their reception was the first wedding event the restaurant has hosted since opening. And they certainly seemed excited to play a part, as Chef and Owner Michael Hall personally baked the newlywed’s wedding cake.
For life after the wedding — and their tropical beach honeymoon — Sheree, who’s also newly retired this year, says they plan to keep Rocketts Landing in their future.
“We really like it here so much. This is where we’d like to stay.”
And though we might be partial, we couldn’t imagine a better location for enjoying retirement and a new marriage than right here in Rocketts Landing. Congratulations!
